About the School

For more details about the School, and about how to apply, please consult the Brochure.

Introduction

A polymer is a large molecule composed of repeating structural units connected by covalent chemical bonds. Because of the extraordinary range of properties of polymeric materials, they are essential and critical in everyday life, ranging from structural applications, drug encapsulations to electronic devices. Important classes of polymer are conducting polymers. Conductive polymers are those organic polymers that can conduct electricity and are having conductivity like metallic or semiconductor. Conducting polymers like polyaniline, polythiophene, and their derivatives are widely used in electronic applications because of their tailorable opto-electronic properties. For the last few decades there is a considerable interest in using electrically conducting polymers (CPs) in microelectronics because these are flexible, possess a high strength to-weight ratio, and are relatively less energy intensive to manufacture. Hence it is essential to build awareness and competence in such a growing and emerging field of conducting polymers.

Objectives

The school is focused on the fundamental aspects of polymer synthesis, characterization and applications in the area of materials processing, drug delivery and various devices.

Course Content

The following topics will be covered under different sessions
