About the Workshop

The Workshop will be in the fields of Crystallography, X-ray diffraction methods including Rietveld method, characterization of texture and residual stress. Lecturers will be drawn from the faculty of IISc, IITs and government R&D laboratories. A set of course notes will be provided to participants.

Important Note

1. Given the hands-on nature of the Workshop, the number of participants will be limited to 20.

Who should attend

The Workshop is intended for senior research students, postdoctoral fellows and young faculty members from eligible partner institutions in the NRC-M programme. From within this group, priority will be given to departments that have already initiated collaborative programs under NRC-M with IISc.

Preference will also be given to those who have already participated in any of the Summer Workshops on Structural Characterization Techniques held in 2009 and 2011 .

Topics

1. Geometrical crystallography (Lattice point groups, space groups)
2. Basics of x-ray diffraction
3. Quantitative phase analysis, Stress measurement, Rietveld analysis, Texture determination.

The workshop is scheduled for one week. Lectures will be followed by tutorials / assignments.

Cost

There is no registration fee. Accommodation will be made available while TA and DA will be borne by NRC-M.
