Welcome
to the webpage of the
Sūkshma,
the research group of Professsor
U. Ramamurty at the Department of Materials
Engineering, Indian Institute of Science. In Sanskrit, sūkshma means incisive, fine and
detailed. This is what we aim at, in the context
of mechanical behavior of a wide variety of materials
at the micro- and nano-scales. In particular, we
are interested in unraveling the connections
between micromechanisms of deformation and
fracture and the overall performance of any
given material. Currently, we are actively
looking at the following materials: bulk metallic glasses, Boron
modified Ti alloys, Mg alloys, and
nanocomposites. In addition, we are interested
in the indentation testing in general, both in
applying it to unravel a given material's
behavior as well as developing an understanding
of what happens underneath the
indenter.
The navigation
buttons on the left hand side of this page will
let you explore considerable information about
us. So, explore and enjoy. Your feedback is
always welcome.
