| The following
are some of the
instruments that we use regularly for our research.
Hysitron
Nanoindenter-
It has
the capability to perform room temperature indentation, scratch and
DMA.It can perform indentation upto maximum temperature of 150oC
and
in-situ indentation imaging. Also it is equipped with
nano-ECR to measure contact resistance.
CSM
Micro
Hardness Tester- has the capability to do indentation upto
maximum load of
30N with temperature varying upto 350 oC.
Instron
8521S-Its a computer controlled servo hydraullic
testing
machine,
mainly used for fatigue and fracture Toughness calculation studies. Its
maximum capacity
is 100KN.

Instron
8032- is mainly used for tension, compression, bending
and low
cycle fatigue
test.Its maximum capacity is 100KN.
Instron
8502- It is mainly used for Stress Corrosion
test,Fracture
Toughness and fatigue crack growth studies. Its maximum capacity is 100
KN.
Zwick
screw-driven UTM- It can do tensile, bending and
compression
test
with
strain rate varying from 10-4
to 10-1 per sec upto 400 °C.Its maximum capacity is 100 KN.
DARTEC-
is a
servo-hydraulic UTM capable of testing at 10-3
/s to 100/s strain rates and upto 1200oC.It is mainly used
for High temperature tension and compression test. Its maximum capacity
is 100 KN.

Zwick
microtensile testing machine- screw
driven microtensile testing machine. It can do tension,
compression and flexure test. Attached with laser extensometer
with load cell capacity of 2.5KN.
Olympus
Stereo
Microscope- magnification varies from 8X-102X with
CCD
camera attached
to it.

Questar
Long
Range Microscope-

Buehler's
low
speed cutting machine-

Struers
variable speed cutting machine-

In
addition, we
have access to a number of other common facilities of the department
such as Gabo Dynamic Mechanical Analyser (DMA), Mettlar Toledo
Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), JEOL scanning electron
microscope, Atomic Force Microscope (AFM),TGA and the facilities
that are available at Institute of
nano science initiative, IISc.
