INDIAN HERITAGE IN METALLURGY

     The Metallurgical Heritage of India is a glorious one. The Iron Pillar at Delhi stands as a monument to the metallurgical accomplishments of ancient India.The Wootz Steel is an advanced material of the ancient world.Zinc was first extracted in India.The Bronze icons of the Cholas and the mirrors of Kerala have won admiration as much for their artistic as for the technological triumps they represent.In spite of numerous studies, an authoritative and authentic statement on the Indian heritage is still lacking.Recognizing this lacuna, the Indian National Academy of Engineering has consituted a Study Group. As part of its acitivity it has been decided to create a website devoted to this subject.
