Micro and nanomechanical testing of materials and systems have evolved considerably in the last ten years to encompass both traditional areas of coatings and MEMS as well as polymers and biological systems. As technological advances create new and innovative methods of testing materials, both in-situ and ex-situ, the relationship between microstructure and properties is continuously being advanced. Mechanically testing a sample while simultaneously monitoring other responses can be particularly informative. For instance, the combination of micro and nanomechanical testing, with transmission or scanning electron microscopy, analytical spectroscopy techniques, electrical current measurements, etc., can lead to quantitative new understanding. The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers in the field of micro and nanomechanical testing in material research across the entire range of engineering materials from soft condensed matter to hard coatings and covering application areas ranging from biology to energy. Leading scientists in the field will discuss significant new developments and also provide didactic lectures. This workshop is aimed at students, researchers and industrial practitioners who wish to develop their background in the general area of the mechanical behavior of materials with small length scales.
The workshop will begin with an opening reception on the evening of September 18th. Technical sessions begin on September 19th, with two and half day seminar sessions and a poster session. The workshop will conclude with a half-day seminar session on September 21st. Over the course of the workshop, internationally recognized invited speakers will deliver seminars on cutting-edge experimental and computational micro and nanomechanics research. The opening reception, on-site lunch on September 19th, 20 and 21st, and an off-site dinner event on September 19th are included with the workshop. The first day of the workshop will be held at Technopark Campus and the following two day it will be at Uday Samudra-Beach Hotel, Kovalam.
